    Rocking the Outlands, Darbuka style

So this is what I did for Memorial Day weekend. Finally got to camp again at an SCA event (Crossroads in the Barony of Caerthe) and hang out with my musical friends. Sorry about the shaky camera...I'm not too good at walking in the dark and filming at the same time.

And that's why I play in the SCA. Where else in the USA can you camp out and bellydance to live sitar, saz, qanun and drums?

    A long absence

The dust has settled and I'm back online again, having recently moved back to the Barony of Caer Galen. While I did miss World of Warcraft a bit, it was good to be offline for a while; you can sure get a lot more done around the house, too.

It has been a sad vacation from the internet, though, as here in the Kingdom of the Outlands, one of our great Barons has passed.

    Baron Patrick
, from right there in Caerthe, (where I just moved from) was laid to rest last weekend after a sudden heart attack earlier in the week. Sadly, I was unable to attend either funeral or memorial service. I knew him to be a great man, but I wish I had known him better.

I got to attend Crossroads for a very brief period of time, and it was short but sweet. I'm glad my campmates of Darbuka decided to camp really far away from the rest of the event, as it made it possible for us to jam all night and be silly loud all day without keeping any other SCA'ers awake or interrupting other performances. That means none of you at Crossroads outside of Darbuka got to hear the "FAR...speaker". Seriously, don't ever drink and digeridoo.

Over the holiday weekend I got to shoot some footage of drumming and dancing, both at the event AND at the Kara Nomadica show at the Boulder Creek Fest, and yes, it's going to get posted soon.

Clan Tynker is Coming to Caerthe!

Sorry for the late notice (for those that read this after the fact) but tomorrow, Saturday Jan. 6th, is Caerthan Twelfth Night, where you've got a RARE opportunity to see Clan Tynker perform!

    See Sword swallowing!

    And Juggling!

And who knows what else they might do? I've seen them many times, and the show is never the same twice.

Certainly taking my video camera to capture the performance but what I'm really hoping for is a video interview with Clan Tynker...

    Officially Caerthan!

Well, I've (finally) finished moving to Denver, making me officially part of the Barony of Caerthe. In all the years I've been an Outlander, I've not had the chance to live in the oldest Barony of this Kingdom. Now we'll see what it's all about.

And looking at their local schedule leaves me with metric shiploads of fighter practices. I'll be going to NCF in Caer Galen this Sunday if anyone wants to poke at me.

Once I get all my garb put away, I can get back to some of the SCA projects that were put on hold. As I mentioned before, there will soon be a large sell-off of stuff. To make room for more stuff. Thanks for the stuff, George Carlin.

Sadly, I'll be missing Sworded Affaire this year...but I'm definitely going to Coronation in Caer Galen May 13th & 14th.

    Some things of interest...

Society for Creative Anachronism Deems Chapter Insufficently Creative

    (!!Satire Alert!!)

The Watley Review is hilarious. It was only a matter of time before they lampooned the SCA.

I've heard that on *some* chat boards and groups, this was taken out of context and taken very seriously. All I can say is HAHAHAHAAAA!

Really. It's obviously fake. Come on.

    Dear Medieval Freake...

Let's have some more funny things today, shall we? The Watley Review's SCA story reminded me of an old satire that I think is also hilarious, but it's not directed specifically at the SCA. More towards Renaissance Fairs.

Go forth and read "The Banterist - Dear Medieval Freake". You will be a better person for it...

...even if it only gives you insult ideas the next time you go to Faire...

Repost: Teahouse of the Winter Moon Report

I love SCA Today. It helps me keep up to date on all the events and happenings of interest to us anachronists.

And I also love to hear what Gentles from other Kingdoms think of the Outlands.

This is a repost from SCA Today: Teahouse of the Winter Moon Report

Saionji no Hanae (Lisa Joseph) of the West Kingdom reports of the recent Teahouse of the Winter Moon event which took place in the Kingdom of the Outlands January 7, 2006.

    Saionji no Hanae writes:

    Greetings,

I had promised a number of people a full report on my activities out of kingdom. If reading about people you don't know doing things you aren't interested in is not your cup of o-cha, kindly delete and pass on. Before you do, however, you should know that this traveler is awed, humbled and deeply honored at the hospitality she was shown by the people of the Outlands.
