Here's a nice four minute clip of the Darbuka hafla Saturday night at last weekends' Glory War X in the northern Outlands. The awesome musicians and drummers alone make this worth a listen, but if you've got a sharp eye, you'll see that the Queen of the Outlands can sure dance up a storm, too.
As promised, a clip from the campfire of Darbuka camp, Sunday night at Crossroads. You've got to love those swingin' sitar sounds and dexterous drummers! Sorry about the occasional windy noise...I was hiding behind the snubbery and the wind kept gusting between the sheets.

I've only been able to find a few videos of War online. So what's the holdup, everyone? I mean, you've been back two whole days by now! Get those clips uploaded to YouTube or MySpace so those of us who missed it can watch! I'll post more as they surface from the murky depths of the internet...

Ririsyncyr's Estrella War gallery has only a few photos, but if you have a far-east persona, you'll want to take a peek at the remnants of the Chinese feast, complete with i-Pod for music. Now if that's not anachronistic, I don't know what is!

Now, Wilgar's Estrella War photos should appeal to some gentlemen out there who appreciate the fine art of bodice-watching. Lots of shots around merchant row makes me almost think I'm there!

Winter Oasis is one of my favorite events. I mean, how often can you spend all day learning about drumming, dancing and middle eastern culture and arts?
The weather was perfect and the food was amazing and plentiful. Many of us took home huge platters overflowing with pakoras, couscous, falafel and other nameless delicacies, as there was simply too much food. I'm still stuffed.
As always, the musicians and drummers of Darbuka played like rock stars. After the event was technically 'over' there was even more amazing music at the post revel (and this time we even had a real fire!)
One exceptional piece of news was the announcement (in the form of a rhyming toast) that Justin and Rafi'a are expecting a baby girl this summer! The Outlands will have to do without these two for a while, but we'll all still be here when they are ready to camp out again. And with those two as parents, she'll grow up learning music, art and fencing. Planting the seed for future Darbuka generations!

Get ready for Winter Oasis on January 29th. Even if you've never done the 'middle eastern' persona, you can just throw on a long t-tunic and belt it with a scarf. Add some kohl around your eyes. Sit on pillows and feast upon the glorious buffet that awaits you...
We in the Outlands sure know how to bust out the awesome props when it comes to events like this. Of course, we have some of the very best musicians in the entire Known World, and I am not just saying that because I'm living with one. If you'd like to experience musicians, drummers and singers making GOOD middle eastern music, make sure you attend this event.
Makes some of those 'other' drum circles seem downright lame by comparison. But then, you may turn into a drum snob like me. Hmm...speaking of drums, we should all take a look at this cartoon about dumbek players.
Oh, yes, the Sultan and Sultana of the Outlands, Ibrahim and Ileana, will be there as well. Lets all make a good show for them, shall we?
One more thing: no drinky-drinky-bangy-bangy, ok?
