Modern military uses renaissance fighting techniques

Studying those old fighting and fencing manuals is a wonderful way to add a few new grapples and moves to your deadly repertoire. You might think that renaissance fighting techniques have no purpose in the modern world, but our US Army and Marine Corps have been training our soldiers with these timeless moves for years.

Check out this video by vaingloria for some great Modern/Renaissance comparison imagery, with period musical entertainment: a 16th century piece titled "Prager Tanze", performed by Collegium Musicum Aldovadensis. I say "Huzzah!" to the author of this video, for some of these complex moves are much clearer to me now!
